Where gutters and fascia actually fail
Most gutter problems are a symptom. These are what we usually fix, plus the fascia and flashing around them.
Blocked and overflowing gutters
Leaves, seed pods and silt build up faster than most people check. Once the front is overflowing, water is already going where it shouldn't.
Sagging and pulling-away gutters
Brackets rust or pull out of rotten fascia, and the fall to the downpipe goes with them. A gutter that looks fine can still pool.
Fascia rot and timber failure
The board behind the gutter is usually first to go. Soft or crumbling fascia is cut back to sound timber and replaced, not painted over.
Downpipes and outlets
Blocked, disconnected or discharging in the wrong place. A bad downpipe can undo a good gutter job.
Roof tile and flashing repair
Cracked, slipped or lifted tiles and failed flashing at the gutter line, fixed on the same visit.
Gutter guard and leaf protection
Fitted where it helps. A north-facing run under gum trees needs it more than a sheltered side wall.
A clogged gutter is a fascia problem waiting to happen
A blocked gutter doesn't fail quietly. Water banks up behind the leaves, sits against the fascia and finds the smallest gap: a nail hole, a lapped joint, a cracked tile above. None of it shows from the ground.
Fascia is timber, and timber that stays wet rots. By the time the gutter sags or pulls away, the board has usually been failing for a year. Clearing the gutter then fixes the symptom and leaves the cause.
So before quoting a clean-out, we check the fall and the fascia behind it. If the timber is sound, a clear and repair is all it needs. If not, we tell you first.
The same goes for roof tiles at the gutter line: a slipped tile two courses up overflows a gutter just like a blockage. On a house being renovated anyway, the roofline is folded into the full house renovation.

Fall checked, not assumed
We check the fall to the downpipe with a level, not by eye. A straight-looking gutter can still pool at one end.
Moisture-resistant fascia where it's replaced
Replacement fascia is treated timber or moisture-resistant composite, never untreated pine painted over.
Gutter stock matched to the property
Colorbond or aluminium matched to your existing profile, with heavier-rated finishes for coastal or high-runoff sites.
Specialist trades brought in where the job needs them
Building, carpentry and fascia work is done under NSW Contractor Licence 492200C. Other licensed work goes to the right licence holder.

How do I know if it's the gutter or the roof?
Water staining right at the roofline, just below where the tiles meet the gutter, is almost always the gutter — either blocked, sagging, or not sloping to the downpipe. Staining further up the ceiling, away from the edge, points to the roof itself. We check both on the same visit, because a clogged gutter can make a sound roof look like it's leaking.
What does gutter and fascia work cost in Sydney?
A clear-and-repair on a standard single-storey run is a different job to a full fascia replacement on a two-storey terrace, and the number moves a lot between them. What we can do is separate the quote into clearing, repair and any fascia replacement, so you can see which part is driving the price and choose what to action now versus later.
Do you just clean gutters, or repair them too?
Both, and we'd rather quote the repair than sell a clean-out you'll need again in six months. If a clear-out is genuinely all it needs, that's what we'll quote.
How often should gutters be cleared in Sydney?
Twice a year is the general rule — before storm season in spring and again after autumn leaf-drop — more often under gums or jacarandas. A property that's overdue by a year or more is usually where we find fascia damage, not just leaves.
What's fascia, and why does it need replacing rather than just painting?
It's the board the gutter is bolted to, running along the edge of the roof. Once it's absorbed water and started to soften or delaminate, paint seals moisture in rather than out, and the fixings holding the gutter no longer have sound timber to bite into. At that point it's replaced, not repainted.
Can you match my existing gutter profile and colour?
In most cases, yes — quad and half-round Colorbond profiles are stocked in the common Sydney colourways. If the property has an older or less common profile, we'll tell you at quote stage whether it's a straight match or a close one.
Do you install gutter guard?
Where it earns its keep — a run under trees that's clogging every few months is a good candidate. A sheltered run that rarely needs clearing usually isn't worth the extra cost.
What warranty do I get on gutter and fascia repairs?
Statutory warranties under the NSW Home Building Act apply automatically and cannot be contracted out of — six years from completion for a major defect, two years for anything else, plus an extra six months if a defect surfaces in the final six months of that period. If a repair fails, that's what stands behind it.
